Using Horses on the Ranch….

Horses….. the indispensable tool for working cattle! We are still refining the art of working cattle via horseback. I started taking riding lessons to learn how to work the cattle via horseback. Far and away, in my opinion, it is the superior method for working cattle that is low stress for the cattle, the human and the horse. The cattle respond so much better to horses. They are calmer and move so much easier. The horses also love having a job to do! There is nothing sweeter than seeing your 15.1 HH horse nudge a day old calf softly to get him to get up and move! I also love that I am no longer the “human fence” and can push the cows via horseback! Being able to work and move the cattle via horseback will allow us raise cattle for the rest of our lives I hope!
