“Checking Cows”

If we aren’t answering most likely we are checking cows! We are checking for new babies, counting mommas, giving body condition scores to monitor health status, noting the amount of grass and water available to see if we need to rotate pastures just to name a few! Checking the cows regularly have saved us in many cases. We are able to identify and correct problems before something bad happens. For example, we can look at the herd and tell from the body condition score (BCS) of the entire herd and tell if the parasite burden is high or if the nutrition is lacking. Conversely, if the entire herd looks good and there is one that has a lower BCS we know that something is going on with just that one. Most of the time in this situation she has just calved and his hiding the calf and our looking for more food or treats from us! We know then to go looking for her calf and make sure it is there and some coyote or something hasn’t got to it! Regularly checking cattle is very important for herd health!

We raise beef cattle in the Hill Country of Texas! Historically we have been a cow/calf operation but have recently been direct marketing some seed stock bulls and stocker steers for finishing! We can finish stockers on grass or grain!

Check out our newsletter for updates on ranch activities and available cattle for sale! We will send out cattle for sale in our newsletter. This will include bulls for sale, replacement heifers, stockers for you to finish and ones we will finish for you!
