2022 calf crop is looking nice!
These guys were all born in January - February of this year! They are all putting on weight nicely! We will wean these guys in mid - late April! At the time of weaning they get their initial vaccines, castration, worming, new fly tags and branding!
Twice a year we pull all the cattle into the working pens. In the spring and in the fall. We have two calving seasons here on the ranch. In the spring and in the fall. We are able to calf twice a year because our weather is relatively mild. Meaning we do not have long cold winters.
This is part of our spring calf crop. Right now they are just enjoying eating from their momma and playing with the other calves. We will wean them off the mommas when they are 3-4 mths old and 300+lbs.
We wean to a separate area on the ranch or an off site location. These mothers have an incredible knack for finding their calves and they aren’t afraid to jump a fence or three to get to them. They have also been known to push in a gate or two to get to them.
